Advice for Dark Cabinets?
Just bought a house with gorgeous solid oak raised panel square cabinets. The problem is they are 30 yrs old and dark walnuty color to them. I love the color but in this house it is way too dark even with the existing ivory counters. It is easy to replace with a light wood but I feel its a waste of taking out and tossing such quality cabs.. Any suggestions on how to rejuvenate them? Even if they were a warmer shade like a cherry vs. the chocolately walnut. I love the oak grain so I don't want to paint them. Just brighten them up. The counters are definetly being replaced but I don't want to darken the room any more. The ivory looks boring with the dark wood.
You could have some of the cabinet doors replaced with glass, and have a few lights installed in the cabinets, displaying your nice dishes. Also, cabinet hardware makes cabinets look completely different. Go buy some different ones, and return the ones you dont like. Good luck!!
