What is a good brand for titanium drill bits?
Not plated, like full titanium. Need both for drills bits and phillip bits. I tried dewalt brands for both and it seems like its plated. after the gold paint disappears it looks like regular bits.
I've used drills for a long time and I don't think I've ever actually heard of a "solid titanium" drill bit.The gold coating on "titanium" drill bits is actually a titanium nitride compound-the purpose of this is to fill in the pores in the underlying steel to remove material(wood chips or metal shavings) more efficiently and subsequently reduce heat and friction.I would think pure titanium would be rather "soft" for making drill bits-it's considered a "ductile" metal -hence it bends and stretches rather easily-which is good for things like fighter jet wings but probably not so good for something like drill bits.
Perhaps if you're looking for higher performance consider looking at cobalt drill bits.
