You must open the battery and replace the batteries. They are usually NiCd or NiMH. 18 volts = 15 pcs x 1.2 V rechargeable batteries. Use the same size (AA, for example) and make sure that the number of HA is the same or higher than the former. Replacements buy at your local RadioShack store or electronics. Need to solder together in series. Use heavy gauge (14AWG or higher) solid copper wire. You can hit the ground wire with a hammer to reduce its thickness, if space is a problem. Use cable as short as possible to reduce drag. Optional: You can remove the caps on the positive ends of the batteries and soldered directly to the positive terminal to reduce resistance. Resistance is a big problem in low-voltage devices CC, because the smallest increase in resistance can cause a large voltage drop and power. Good luck and save money!
