I stand in a fuel pump circuit problem! Need Ford responds Tech?
I have a 96 Ford Explorer 2WD, automatic with 4.0 engine: Is there any reason why the circuit of the fuel pump with fuel pump relay installed, will the battery voltage to a constant 6.75 volts in 1.2 seconds with the engine off key, however, when the relay is removed and the circuit is a base jump from B + to relay circuit making fuel pump maintaining a little over 12 volts steadily with the engine off key? Is there a timer in the PCM? In addition, other that the fuel pump is broken, Is there any reason why not the fuel pump is turned on by jumping the fuel pump relay base B + to the relay fuel pump making? I have good continuity of inertia switch connector to the fuel pump. I can get a constant 12 volts between the base and relay harness ground VPWR key the engine off. I'm just trying to make sure my fuel pump is down before going through the work of leaving the tank and pump replacement.
One, a voltmeter reads only difference so you can throw it off track. Ford actually recommend using a light bulb and bridges to verify and PCM circuits. Pins 85 and 86 is the control with 85 being the power if I remember the field and 86 in the PCM to run (85 and 86 is the control circuits and written the relay as such, pin 30) should be battery voltage with pin 87 being outside going to the pump. As others have said, the computer will power the EEC relay for 2 seconds without crank pulse sensor CKP put pressure on the line for easy starting. after that it requires either a pulse or command CKP assets of a indepandant store level or better tool for exploration with the active command function (like my snap on (scan tool used to keep chevy to the store for Chrysler and the work I occasionally) but usually my NGS + or IDS) to activate the relay fuel pump that the easiest way is to check 85 and 86 is a test light and see if they light up when key is turned on .. If so, then install jumper between pins 30 and 87 and check for voltage at the pump .. if there are 12 volts .. In general, it is the pump I have an assistant crank while I check for power on the railway FP to determine if the fuel pump is history
